Getting Out of Debt

Debt Destruction Progress – Part 3

It’s that time again! We are going to take a quick look at where I am on my debt destruction journey.

As a quick refresher, I began this journey on September 1, 2015 and I’ve been pursuing debt freedom ever since. Along the way, I’ve adopted principles of minimalism and financial independence that have accelerated my goals and helped me make great strides in destroying my debt and becoming debt free.

Some of those principles have led to lifestyle changes that include selling my car, moving in with roommates, cooking my own meals more often, and using my bike as my main source of transportation.

The last time I posted about my debt destruction progress, which was September 2017, I was sitting right around $21,000 dollars in debt.

Let’s See Where We Stand Now:

Now, as of March 1st, 2018, I’ve gotten that total down to right at $10,000!

That means in the last six months, I’ve managed to erase around $11,000 dollars from my debt! Since I started my journey, I’ve eliminated right at $63,000, averaging just over $2,000 per month.

To be fair, those numbers are a little skewed due to the fact that I sold my car and used that money to pay off debt. I also sold a few other belongings as I transitioned more into minimalism, which I also applied to my debt.

I say that to encourage you! You may not be able to average eliminating $2,000 worth of debt per month, but you can definitely start taking your debt seriously and working hard toward attacking it to the best of your ability.

So what about you? How are you doing on your financial journey? Are you just getting started? Are you almost done destroying your own debt? What type of sacrifices are you making in order to increase your debt payments? Let me know in the comments!
